What does a Tibetan copper bracelet mean?

It is worn as an everyday reminder rather than a charm with a job, and in Tibetan practice copper is the metal associated with steadiness and with carrying a blessing.

Copper turns up close to the skin in a remarkable number of traditions, Tibetan and Ayurvedic among them, usually for the same loosely held reason: it is warm, it is humble, and it is the metal you wear rather than the metal you display. The braided cord and the hand tied knots are the Tibetan part. The result is a piece that reads as practice rather than jewellery, which is why people wear it with a watch and forget it is there.

What are copper's traditional benefits, and does it actually do anything?

Copper is worn in several traditions as a grounding, steadying metal, and that is the honest extent of it. This is a bracelet, not a remedy, and it is sold as one.

You will find a great deal written online about copper and the body. We are not going to repeat it, because we cannot stand behind it and because you deserve better than a sales page pretending to be a medical one. If you want a cure, this is not one, and anyone selling you one is not being straight with you.

What makes it a Buddhist bracelet?

The knots are tied by hand in the Tibetan style, which is what separates a Buddhist bracelet from a plain beaded one.

The braided cord, the sliding knot and the way the beads are strung all come from the same Himalayan tradition that produces prayer cord and mala. The copper beads sit on that cord rather than on a chain or an elastic, so the piece reads as mala-adjacent everyday wear instead of a fashion bracelet with a theme. Which wrist should you wear it on?

Most people wear it on the left, the side traditionally thought to receive rather than give.

That is the convention across Tibetan and Ayurvedic practice, and it is where the majority of our customers put it. Plenty wear it on the right instead, usually because it is the hand they use less and the beads take fewer knocks there. Neither is wrong. If you are wearing two, one on each wrist is the common arrangement, and stacking both on one is just as usual.

Will it fit?

Yes. The sliding knot moves along the cord, so the bracelet opens out and draws in to wherever you want it and holds there.

It adjusts from 6.3 to 10.2 inches, which covers most wrists comfortably, including larger ones. The beads are small, around 4mm, which is what makes the band fine and light rather than chunky. Pull both cord ends outward to open it, slip it over your hand, then draw the knot closed. No clasp to fasten one handed, and you can reset it any time.

How do you clean it?

A soft dry cloth brings the shine back, and that is all it needs.

Copper dulls as it is worn, which is normal and reverses with a minute of polishing. Keep it out of the shower and the pool, because the cord prefers to stay dry, and keep perfume and hand lotion off the braid. If you like the darker lived in look, leave it alone and it will get there on its own.
